Comprehensive study of the icon written by one of the recognised experts in the field. The focus of the book is panel painting from the end of Iconoclasm until the end of the 16th century. Part I of the book is arranged by themes linked to the emergence and historical development of the East Christian world. An art historical overview of the subject is provided in Part II of the book, where the author offers a detailed analysis of the stylistic and technical characteristics which define each of the main periods and the principal local schools of icon painting. This will be a monumental reference work which is intended to include over 1500 illustrations in colour.
